My September Picks:
Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that’s their secret weapon.
They’ve spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they’re 60 years old, four women friends can’t just retire—it’s kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller by New York Times best-selling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.
Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have worked for the Museum, an elite network of assassins, for 40 years. Now their talents are considered old-school and no one appreciates what they have to offer in an age that relies more on technology than people skills.
When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses-paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.
Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.
When the beautiful and precocious sisters Sally and Gillian Owens are orphaned at a young age, they are taken to a small Massachusetts town to be raised by their eccentric aunts, who happen to dwell in the darkest, eeriest house in town. As they become more aware of their aunts’ mysterious and sometimes frightening powers – and as their own powers begin to surface – the sisters grow determined to escape their strange upbringing by blending into “normal” society.
But both find that they cannot elude their magic-filled past. And when trouble strikes – in the form of a menacing backyard ghost – the sisters must not only reunite three generations of Owens women but embrace their magic as a gift – and their key to a future of love and passion.
An isolated mansion. A chillingly charismatic aristocrat. And a brave socialite drawn to expose their treacherous secrets…. From the author of Gods of Jade and Shadow comes “a terrifying twist on classic gothic horror” (Kirkus Reviews) set in glamorous 1950s Mexico.
After receiving a frantic letter from her newly wed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada heads to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. She’s not sure what she will find – her cousin’s husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about the region.
Noemí is also an unlikely rescuer: She’s a glamorous debutante, and her chic gowns and perfect red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. But she’s also tough and smart, with an indomitable will, and she is not afraid: Not of her cousin’s new husband, who is both menacing and alluring; not of his father, the ancient patriarch who seems to be fascinated by Noemí; and not even of the house itself, which begins to invade Noemi’s dreams with visions of blood and doom.
Her only ally in this inhospitable abode is the family’s youngest son. Shy and gentle, he seems to want to help Noemí but might also be hiding dark knowledge of his family’s past. For there are many secrets behind the walls of High Place. The family’s once colossal wealth and faded mining empire kept them from prying eyes, but as Noemí digs deeper she unearths stories of violence and madness.
And Noemí, mesmerized by the terrifying yet seductive world of High Place, may soon find it impossible to ever leave this enigmatic house behind.

I can’t believe we’re already this far into summer! Being on the coast of NC, the summer weather tends to stick around a lot longer than most areas, but I’m still looking forward to fall! For my favorites this month I’m sharing some bookish things, my new favorite wall art pieces, and more!
Thriller Reader Mug: One of my favorite planner sticker shops Sweet Bean Plans has started creating new products including coffee mugs! I finally got my hands on one of the coffee mugs and I’m obsessed! I can’t wait to grab another one soon!
Book of the Month: I’ve only been subscribed to Book of the Month for 4 months, but I’m loving it! They always have a good variety of picks and add-ons, and you get a hardback for cheaper than retail! Sign up here with my link to receive your first box for $10.
Home Decor + Lifestyle
Window Shop Gal Art Prints: I’ve been on the hunt for some fun art prints ever since we moved from our 1 bedroom apartment to our 3 bedroom apartment a few months ago! I wanted a lot of the art to reflect things we liked, so when I found this shop I instantly knew I had to buy some prints! I ended up purchasing the Luke’s Diner Retro Poster, the Tree Hill North Carolina Retro Vintage Travel Poster, the In Omnia Paratus Poster Heritage Edition, and the Hawkins Indiana Retro Vintage Travel Poster.
Cloud Nine Candle Shop Wax Melts: I’m a huge candle and wax melt person! We have several wax warmers throughout our home, and I’m always switching up the scents (especially for the new seasons!). I recently placed a huge order with Cloud Nine Candle Shop and I am in LOVE with every scent I purchased. It all smells amazing and I can’t wait to place another order soon!
Beauty + Skincare
Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides: I’ve been using this collagen powder for almost a year now. It’s one of the only collagens I found that I could use in water, smoothies, or coffee (because it has no taste) and was gluten-free! I’ve seen a big improvement in my skin, hair, and nails since I started using this.
Find Your Happy Place, Dr. Teal’s, and Buff City Soap Bath Products: When we moved into our new apartment, the thing I was most excited about was the bathtub (we didn’t have one in our last place)! I take a bath several times a week, and I love bath products! Bath salts, bath bombs, scrubs, etc. I always have a ton of stuff to use on hand! Lately, I’ve been obsessed with all things Buff City Soap (the bath bombs, bath truffles, and shower fizzy’s are a must), bath salts from Find Your Happy Place, and Dr. Teal’s bubble bath and scrubs.
Dashing Diva Nail Strips: These things are a must for my manicures! Nail polish, no matter how long-lasting, chips on my nails. Dashing Diva nail strips last two weeks and won’t chip! I love that they always have great seasonal options to pick from too! I can’t wait to grab some for fall and Halloween!
